Amber & Pat Say 'I Do' On The Deck

“Amber and Pat's gorgeous wedding combined incredible style with intimacy, emotion and a sense of humour.”              Brent Lukey, Photographer.

There's something special about evening,  rooftop ceremonies.  Guests seem to be in more of a party mood, especially when they've congregated prior to the ceremony at the ultra-chique Circa, The Prince, Bar.   The Deck upstairs was the venue for Amber and Pat's stylish Saturday evening wedding ceremony.  As the guests arrived to the floodlit lap pool, stunning white floral arrangements by Babylon Flowers, paper lanterns and comfy white cane chairs, I could sense that they were impressed and looking forward to the ceremony about to unfold.

Pat and his groomsmen, wearing suits by P Johnson Tailors, greeted the guests as they entered the rooftop, sharing a drink and a few laughs prior to Amber's arrival.

A beaming Amber, wearing a stunning Mariana Hardwick gown entered with her very proud father to Nick Cave's Breathless

Pat's expression mirrored that of his beautiful bride.  It was such a special moment to observe.

Standing alongside a bridal party of twelve, most of them siblings, I told of Amber and Pat's first meeting at Public House, Richmond, six years earlier.  I described Pat's hilarious efforts to impress Amber, noting his somewhat mesmerising dance moves, and the qualities they came to admire in one another.  We laughed at Amber's obsessive need to bring fruit to every occasion (fair enough, she's a Dietitian!), Pat's obsession with football and his terrible choice of television shows.

Their vows were undoubtedly a highlight of the ceremony.  They were a perfect blend of romantic sincerity and belly-laughing humour, giving us a glimpse into their very happy life together.

Champagne was distributed whilst we signed the marriage register.  When we returned the huge crowd of happy guests toasted Amber and Pat's very happy and heartfelt commitment in marriage.

A stylish and very enjoyable evening ceremony indeed.

Congratulations Amber and Pat.  Your warmth, kindness and good humour is contagious.  You're such a beautiful couple, inside and out and it was my pleasure to have conducted your ceremony. xx

Props & Poses - Ideas For Your Wedding Photos

Without doubt, one of the things I love most about being a marriage celebrant is receiving photos from couples.  I have been known to skip from the letterbox or clap at my keyboard when a special delivery arrives.  I love reliving the excitement of the day and getting a peak at what happened before and after the ceremony.

My first foray into weddings was as a bridesmaid in the early 90's.  I wore a full skirted cerise dress with puffy rosette-endorned sleeves, finished with a large bow at the back.  As you might imagine, I was beautiful.  At the family home, during the signing of the register and in pretty much every photo, I stood in height order alongside my fellow bridesmaids in an arrangement reminiscent of the Von Trapp family formation.  Later I watched as the photographer arranged the Ray-Ban wearing groomsmen in the old "drop your pants to reveal your satin Looney-Tunes boxer shorts" pose.  Thank goodness so much has changed in the world of fashion and photography!

Thankfully, the days of posed wedding photos have been well and truly surpassed by candid and often whimsical snaps.  Documentary style dominates.  Props are popular too.  From signage to silly string, couples are injecting humour and personality into their big day and I love it!

Here are some of the current wedding photo trends that have caught my eye over the past few years.

I love torso images.  I love seeing the finer details of the wedding gown, the clothing colour palette and the intimacy of hand holding.

Rings

I love a modern spin on a traditional photo.  Ask your photographer to snap your precious stone on a copy of the day's newspaper or with another prized possession.  You're only limited by your imagination.

Veils

To wear or not to wear?  There's so much a clever photographer can do with a billowing veil. You may just decide to wear one after viewing these.

The Images That Can't Be Planned...

Nothing beats a candid photo.  Plan a few shots but remember to enjoy the day and allow your photographer capture the true emotion as and when it happens.

Karen & Alex's Yarra Valley Wedding

When an industry professional asks you to conduct her wedding ceremony, it’s a great honour. That was indeed the case when wedding planner and stylist Karen from One Day, Your Way and her husband-to-be Alex, asked me to compose and conduct their ceremony at the beautiful Immerse in the Yarra Valley

Karen and Alex envisaged a stylish, personalised and unique ceremony; something that reflected their romantic and sentimental natures, was enjoyable for them and their guests and was different from the norm.

Holding a bouquet of white roses, decorated with a silver charm given to her by her bridesmaids, Karen entered via the exquisite rose garden to River Flows In You by Yiruma.

After a lighthearted welcome, Alex’s close friends kept the mood happy and bright by enacting an hilarious comic strip reading.  I then shared with the guests Karen and Alex's very romantic story, noting the sentimental significance of her Alexandrite engagement ring; a stone that not only shares its name with her husband, it's also his birth stone.

We then witnessed their poetic, heartfelt and at times hilarious vows before I had the very happy task of declaring them to be husband and wife.

Karen and Alex wrote love letters to each another prior to the ceremony.  They were sealed and placed in a box, together with a bottle of pinot noir, produced from the grapes grown at Immerse. The letters and wine will remain unopened until the occasion of their 10th wedding anniversary.  Alex opened a second bottle of Immerse wine and together they shared their first drink as husband and wife.

Congratulations Karen and Alex.  Your sense of style, romance and humour shone through as much as your contagious happiness.  It was my great pleasure to conduct your ceremony.  May you always remain as happy as you were on your wedding day. x
